Once you arrive in Belize everything is taken care of and all you’ll need to do is have fun photographing the huge diversity of birds, mammals, reptiles and other animals that Belize offers up. We’ll stay at 4 different eco-lodges, each located in the thick of the tropical wildlife action. Since Belize is such a small country we never have to drive very far and can spend our time learning and practicing the best techniques for photographing colorful birds of all sizes, unique mammals, reptiles, and more.
Belize is super friendly and very easy to visit – it’s only a 2.5 hour flight from Houston or Miami. The official language is English and for visitors looking for an easy tropical getaway with tons of wildlife, Belize can’t be beat. On this guided photo tour we’ll see and photograph as many species of birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals as possible. At the wonderful eco-lodges where we stay, the local guides are passionate about getting us as many wildlife sightings as possible. Belize is a great, easy place to be a wildlife photographer. All skill levels welcome and you’ll have a professional photographer (me) with you at all times to help you get the best photos possible.
What to Bring
- Digital camera body or 2 in order to have a backup
- Wildlife zoom lens such as a 200-600mm, 100-400mm or similar
- Wide angle scenic lens such as a full frame equivalent of 17-40mm
- Close-up or macro lens (extension tubes or a proper diopter filter can be substituted for macro lens)
- Sturdy tripod
- Polarizing filter for your wide angle lens
- Extra batteries and battery charger
- Plenty of memory cards – you might shoot up to 3,000 images/day
Notes
- Tour begins and ends in Belize City, Belize (airport code BZE).
- You should arrive into Belize City as early as possible on March 27th in order to attend the initial meet/greet at 6pm that evening.
- A hotel driver with a tour sign will meet you just outside the Belize City airport. He/She will take you to the first hotel.
- A travel Visa in not currently required for citizens of the US or Canada to visit Belize as a tourist.
- Outbound flights should be booked for April 5th after about 1pm.
