All Skill Levels
This photography workshop is built around one simple idea: spending meaningful time in incredible places when the light is at its best. We’ll start in Venice, photographing the city as it slows down and wakes up, then gradually make our way into the Dolomites, where the landscapes get bigger, quieter, and more dramatic with each day.
Along the way, we’ll shoot everything from canals and historic architecture to alpine lakes, high mountain passes, and iconic Dolomite peaks. Some locations are famous for a reason, others are just beautiful places to slow down and really work a scene. Sunrise and sunset are a big focus, but there’s plenty of space in between to refine composition, experiment, and develop your own way of seeing.
This trip isn’t about rushing from spot to spot or chasing checklists. It’s about being in the right place at the right time, understanding the light, and coming away with images that feel intentional and personal. Whether you’re drawn to grand landscapes or quieter details, this workshop is designed to help you grow as a photographer while experiencing some of the most stunning scenery in Italy.
Lead by award-winning official Sony Digital Imaging Advocate Andy Yee, this tour will push your photography to the next level. The intimate group size is designed for personal attention to develop your photographic vision.
What to Bring
Camera Gear Essentials
1. Two camera bodies (if possible)
Mountain conditions change fast. Having a backup body protects you from missed moments and lets you run two focal lengths without constant lens swaps in wind and dust.
2. Lenses
-
Wide angle (16–35mm range) for epic landscapes and dramatic foregrounds
-
Mid-range (24–70mm) for versatility
-
Telephoto (70–200mm or longer) for isolating peaks and compressing layers
The Dolomites are perfect for telephoto compression at sunrise and sunset.
3. Tripod
Non-negotiable. You will be shooting blue hour, sunrise, sunset, and potentially long exposures. A sturdy tripod is critical. Lightweight travel tripods struggle in alpine wind.
4. Filters
-
Circular polarizer
-
3–6 stop ND
-
10 stop ND (optional for creative long exposures)
-
Graduated ND if you use them
5. Extra batteries
Cold mornings drain batteries fast.
6. Plenty of memory cards
