Whales and Seascape Photography Tour in Australia

Join award-winning photographers Robin and Timothy Moon for a five-day seascape photography adventure based in Bermagui, on the beautiful south coast of New South Wales. This immersive tour is designed by photographers for photographers, combining expert-led fieldwork with some of the region’s most stunning coastal locations.

What You’ll Experience

From sunrise seascapes to playful humpback whales, this workshop is rich in photographic variety. You’ll explore iconic formations like Camel Rock and Horse Head Rock, take part in astrophotography sessions, and enjoy three unforgettable whale watching cruises.

The tour is timed to coincide with the peak of whale migration season. From late September to November, mothers and calves travel south along Australia’s East Coast toward Antarctica. These close encounters, paired with dramatic coastal landscapes and golden-hour light, make this a perfect setting for both wildlife and seascape photography.

Workshop Highlights:

  • A total of three whale watching cruises

  • Iconic seascapes including Camel Rock, Horse Head Rock, and Glasshouse Rocks

  • Sunrise and sunset shoots at carefully chosen locations

  • Evening astrophotography under dark skies

  • Creative drone and post-processing sessions

  • Small group format with one-on-one support and mentoring

Day 4 – Monday, October 6
Photograph the sunrise from Bermagui Headland before boarding your second whale watching cruise. After a creative session, you’ll close the day with a sunset shoot at Horse Head Rock (low tide 6:20 pm, sunset 7:08 pm).

Day 5 – Tuesday, October 7
Enjoy a final sunrise shoot at the Blue Pool, followed by breakfast. Depart later in the morning.

What to Expect

This is a relaxed, thoughtfully paced tour designed to help you deepen your skills and enjoy the process. Unlike larger tours, this experience is kept intentionally small, allowing time for personal feedback and meaningful connections with fellow photographers.

You’ll stay in the same accommodation throughout the workshop, giving you time to settle in and focus fully on your craft. All sessions are tailored to the conditions of the day, with the flexibility to chase light and weather as needed. Whether you’re just beginning your photography journey or looking to refine your vision, you’ll feel welcome and supported.

BOOK NOW

During the months of Sept- Nov there is a  100% Whale Sighting Guarantee on our tour boat as Humpback mothers bring their energetic and playful calves back down Australia’s East Coast heading for Antarctica.

Having been born in the warmer tropical waters of Hervey Bay or Tonga  by the time they reach Bermagui on their Southern Migration the mischievous calves are old enough to leave their mothers and be curious about the world around them.

At this time of year you see a lot of  ‘naughty children having fun’ behaviour as the babies are taught pec slapping and tail slamming and breaching behaviour by their adults. They are extremely curious and love to come close to the boats for a ‘mugging’ often needing to be called away by their more chilled mothers – this is where you would need a mid wide angle lens or your iphone – IF you are able to concentrate in the magic of these moments. 🙂 .
