I still remember what it was like to learn photography, and I remember the struggles. Why is an f-stop also called aperture? Why is exposure time also your shutter speed? Interchangeable words for the same photographic term can be confusing, not to mention frustrating when all you want to do is become a good photographer. I am sensitive to this and the insecurity it creates in your photographic journey. I’ve spent years refining how I teach photography—making both the technical and creative aspects easier to understand while creating a supportive environment where photographers can learn, experiment, and grow.

For more than 14 years, I have photographed and taught in landscapes I know intimately. Knowing these locations allows me to do more than guide you to a beautiful view. I can help you anticipate the light, recognize creative possibilities, and slow down long enough to make thoughtful photographs that feel like your own.

Since 1994, I have worked as an art director, creative director, and director of photography. These roles taught me how ideas develop, how individual elements come together to strengthen an image, and how to guide someone toward a creative solution without taking away their own voice. That experience continues to shape the way I teach today. I don’t want to tell you what to photograph—I want to help you recognize what draws you to a scene and express it in a way that feels personal to you.
